Who is responsible

What we collect and why

Browsing the site

We record anonymous usage events (for example that a search was made, which product page was viewed, or that a retailer link was clicked) to understand what people look for and where our coverage falls short. These events contain no name, email, account or advertising identifier, we do not build profiles of individuals, and the events are deleted after 180 days. Our hosting provider processes standard server logs, including IP addresses, for security and to deliver the site; these are kept only as long as needed for that purpose.

Price alerts

If you set a price alert we store your email address, the product, your target price, and when we emailed you. We use this only to send the confirmation email and the alerts you asked for. Legal basis: performance of the service you requested (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b)). Every alert email contains an unsubscribe link, which stops the alert immediately; we then keep the record only for as long as needed to honour that choice.

Error reports

If you report an error you may optionally give an email address so we can follow up. We keep the report until the issue is resolved. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site accurate (Article 6(1)(f)).

Saved products

When you save a product we set one cookie containing a random device token and keep your list on our servers under a one-way hash of that token for 90 days from your last visit. The list holds product references, a condition and a quantity, nothing about you: no name, no email, no account. The price you saw when you saved is looked up from our price history, not stored with your list. Delete the cookie and the list is unreachable; unused lists are removed automatically. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing the feature you asked for (Article 6(1)(f)).

Cookies and local storage

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The site sets one functional cookie for your saved products (see above) and may use local storage in your browser as a cache for the same list. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies to serve the site securely.

Retailer links

When you click through to a retailer, that retailer and the affiliate network (currently Awin) may set their own cookies to record the referral. Their privacy policies apply from that point. See our affiliate disclosure.

Who we share data with

Our hosting and database providers process data on our behalf under contracts that require them to protect it. We do not sell personal data and do not share it with retailers.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete or restrict the personal data we hold about you, or object to our use of it. Email privacy@dealssupermarket.com and we will respond within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the new version applies from then.
